“My Office had a strong start to the year by returning millions of dollars to West Virginians. Through expanding our outreach and partnerships across the state, we will build upon this momentum to reunite our citizens with their lost funds,” Treasurer Moore said. “I’m delighted the Tucker County Board of Education and St. George Medical Clinic will use these funds to benefit families in Tucker County and the surrounding region.”

Treasurer Moore joined St. George Medical Clinic Executive Director Paul Wamsley; Co-COO and Quality Manager Chatel Jones; and Co-COO and Corporate Compliance Officer Dani Summerfield; at the Tucker County Board of Education Office on Monday to present an unclaimed property check worth $30,915.14.

St. George Medical Clinic is the only full-service retail pharmacy in Parsons that serves patients in Tucker County and surrounding communities.

“The money returned to us will be reinvested into our local community for the health and well-being of our patients and neighbors through community partners, such as the Tucker County Family Support Center and the Tucker County Board of Education, as well as services offered from the St. George Clinic and our 340-B pharmacy,” Wamsley said.

“We are proud to serve this community and the surrounding communities. Our clinic is grateful to State Treasurer Riley Moore and his Office for their hard work in securing the unclaimed property for St. George Medical Clinic.”

Treasurer Moore also presented an unclaimed property check worth $13,170 to Tucker County Schools Superintendent Alicia Lambert and Tucker County Schools Treasurer Tracy Teets on Monday, February 12.

“We greatly appreciate the Office of the State Treasurer for returning these funds which will be used for our students who are dually enrolled at Tucker County High School and Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College in the CNA program,” Superintendent Lambert said.

Recently, Treasurer Moore announced that his Office returned more than $2.2 million worth of unclaimed property to individuals, businesses and other organizations during the month of January.

The Treasurer’s Office has more than $400 million worth of unclaimed property listings in its database. Currently, Tucker County has more than 8,000 unclaimed property listings worth nearly $1 million for individuals, businesses and organizations. What is Unclaimed Property?

Unclaimed property can include financial accounts or items of value in which the owner has not initiated any activity for one year or longer. Common examples include unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards. (While the title includes the word “property,” it does not however include real estate.)

West Virginia’s unclaimed property laws protect the public by ensuring money and property owed to them is returned to them, rather than remaining permanently with financial institutions, business associations, governments and other entities. The Treasurer seeks to reunite the unclaimed property, including uncashed paychecks, stocks, or safe deposit box contents, with its owner.

Nationwide, nearly 33 million people in the United States – one in every 10 – are estimated to have unclaimed property available for them to claim.

How Can I Find Unclaimed Property in My Name?

West Virginians searching for lost financial assets can go to www.WVUnclaimedProperty.com to search if their name or business is listed in the database. You can also file a claim or check its status as that website. Individuals can also still visit www.wvtreasury.com, then click on the large Unclaimed Property “Search” button to the right of the page under the heading, “Are We Holding Your Money?,” which will redirect them to the unclaimed property website.

A demonstration of how to use the Unclaimed Property search site is available on the Treasury’s YouTube page, at: https://youtu.be/K09yQ7YNKlE.
