CHARLESTON – West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue will recognize three students from Musselman High School at 10 a.m. TOMORROW (June 16) in his office at the State Capitol for each being awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the national H&R Block Budget Challenge.

Recent Musselman High School graduates Mitch Arvon, Vanessa Beddow and Kirsten Campbell are among eight West Virginia winners of the national contest.

WHAT: H&R Block Budget Challenge scholarship winners

The H&R Block Budget Challenge is a teen financial literacy program that rewards high school students for mastering real-world budgeting and personal finance. The challenge allows students to experience activities such as paying bills, managing expenses, saving money, investing in retirement and paying taxes. All participants compete to best manage the same scenario.

State Treasurer John Perdue is both a state and national leader in financial literacy. He developed the nationally recognized NetWorth financial education initiative and is the recipient of the Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award (EIFLE) from the Institute for Financial Literacy. He also currently chairs the National Association of State Treasurer’s Financial Literacy Committee, where he works with other State Treasurers around the nation to form best practices and goals for financial education programs.
